I saw this post earlier:
It's easy to get caught up in the belief that you need the latest and greatest gear just to create the content that works. However, many successful creators have proven that great content comes from creativity, skill, and passionβnot just fancy gear.
Let's talk about some of these creators:
Earn Your Leisure (Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings) 1.54M Subs
- Started their podcast with basic equipment (which included recording from their iPhones), focusing on content rather than high-end audio gear
- Built a massive following by providing valuable financial education and entertainment
- Proof that compelling content and consistency can lead to success in the podcasting world.
Here is a picture from their first video uploaded on YouTube
MKBHD (Marques Brownlee) 19.3M Subs
- Brownlee started his YouTube channel as a teenager using just a webcam and later a smartphone.
- His early success came from his knowledge and presentation skills, not from expensive equipment
This is one of his very first videos 15 years ago
Jenny Hoyos 5.01M Subs
- She started creating content and is still creating content on her smartphone
- She even grew her mom's channel up to 1.22 M with just a phone
- Jenny's relatable content and genuine personality helped her connect with her audience.
As each creator grows, many upgrade their equipment, but they don't start with a full production team. Let's break down what they truly start with:
Use What You Have
- Start with your smartphone or computer's built-in microphone
- Capcut, IMovie, or DaVinci Resolve to edit your videos for free
Prioritize Content Quality
- Focus on developing engaging topics and improving your delivery
- Conduct thorough research to provide valuable information to your audience
Use Natural Light
- Good lighting is crucial and doesn't require expensive setups
- Learn to use windows and outdoor lighting to your advantage
Invest in Simple Accessories
- A small tripod or gimbal can greatly improve video stability
- External microphones can significantly boost audio quality
Focus on Composition and Storytelling
- The way you frame your shots and tell your story matters more than the device you use
- Study basic composition rules and storytelling techniques to make your content stand out
The most important part of content creation is connecting with your audience. By focusing on your message, honing your skills, and being consistent (which I teach at my 2-Day Virtual Workshop), you can create impactful content without breaking the bank on expensive equipment.
π AI Alley
Let me give you a preview of an AI tool video that I created before it comes out about an AI tool that is supposed to be the next Canva, but for videos. Itβs called FlexClip.
β
- We explore the different features
- Create a simple logo intro
- Tested the AI video generator
- Tested the slideshow template
Let me know what you think about this tool. Is it worth trying?
π£ The Content Stoop
I think this image is so good that I had to share it for this week's content stoop.

Creators Are Starting To Use These Mics More And More
There isnβt a YouTube video, TikTok, IG Reel, etc., that Iβm watching where I donβt see these mics popping up. Even MKBHD has them. The audio is fire.

π΄ Underrated Lesson
Your views are down because you are creating the opposite of what actually works. We know what worksβitβs in our analytics/insights. But as creators, we always want to create something new. However, the data doesnβt lie.
π Open your analytics
π Identify the topics and content formats that do well based on your data
π Focus on creating that
Rinse and repeat.
So you already know you have to email me back about your biggest takeaway from this week's Content Corner take a screenshot and tag me in your stories (or Threads) so I know you liked this week's content. If not, I'll see you next Friday. Same time, same corner.
